January
Creating waves of change to bring an ocean of opportunities
"The learning and knowledge that we have, is, at the most, but little compared with that of which we are ignorant”. Plato and 5 more Greek philosophers shed their words of wisdom on the IAPCO Edge Athens seminar which was organized jointly by Erasmus, Era and AFEA in Athens, 17-19 January, 2017. 50 participants from 18 countries and 7 faculty members joined in lively discussions on most aspects of congress organization including bidding, site inspections, project management, budgeting, sponsorship and future trends. A yoga session on the second day, a fun night out at “The Owl Athens” (wisdom was a key element of the seminar throughout!) and a super inspiring speech by Olympic gold medalist Nikolaos Kaklamanakis on “creating waves of change to bring an ocean of opportunities” were some of the highlights of the Seminar.
New year, new horizons, continued trust
A great opening for the New Year was the appointment of Erasmus as the official PCO and Association Management Company of the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE). Erasmus will organize IFNE's biennial congress in 2019 (St. Louis, USA), 2021 (Singapore) and 2023 (venue to be announced in the future). The contract was signed in Napoli between Prof. Giuseppe Cinalli, Dr. Spyridon Sgouros and Erasmus CEO, Georgia Tsatsou.
February
Extending our talents beyond professional congress management
In Greece new year celebrations don’t end sometimes until the end of March … Loyal to this tradition (and trying to adjust our programme to the workload!) we held our New Year party on February 12th along with family members, with lots of fun, karaoke song contest, dancing and many happy surprises for the kids. An exhibition of photos capturing employees’ happiest moments in the office attracted the attention of guests at the ballroom foyer, with the best photo as voted by everyone at the party winning the prize!

HAPCO “pitta cutting”

As member of the Board of the Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers, our CEO, Georgia Tsatsou was among the hosts in the “HAPCO Pitta cutting” evening which was organized in a central Athens club in February.
‘Leading the Future, Creating Opportunities’

… in Dubai, along with 120 peers from PCO companies from over 30 countries, during the 48th Annual Meeting of IAPCO. The meeting involved educational initiatives combined with exciting social activities and ample opportunities for networking and exchange of ideas, trends and experiences. Erasmus participated in a debate panel on whether “PCOs should compete or collaborate”, supporting the great benefits of collaboration, under certain circumstances.
Pursuing consensus on arachnoid cysts in children

In the beautiful 17th century Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome, we organized the 2017 Consensus Conference and 3rd Refresher Course of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN) from February 23rd to 25th, 2017, as part of our core PCO and Association Management contract with the ESPN.
March
Together with the SIU in London

For the 7th year in a row, Erasmus participated in the EAU Annual Congress (24-28/3/2017) raising awareness about its urological projects, with a focus on the 7th Challenges in Endourology meeting which is endorsed by the SIU.
Annual corporate meeting

In mid March the entire team of Erasmus from all divisions (management, operations, business development, finances) gathered in a nearby hotel to discuss the previous year’s performance and the current year’s goals but also to share knowledge from the various educational activities that had been attended by selected staff. Particular tribune was given to the younger (physically and professionally) members of the team, who presented an excellent transfer of knowledge they had gained during the recent IAPCO Edge seminar held in Athens.
April
Congress rally
This year’s Easter break was a very short one in view of eleven back to back projects starting in early May and ending in the beginning of July. To warm up for this intensive congress rally, 7 members of the Erasmus team, along with colleagues from our partner company, Kyvernitis Travel, took part in the Athens No Finish Line run, which took place in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre in the end of April. We recorded 133 Km in total and contributed to the actualization of the feeding program for needy families with young children, held by the organization “Together for Children”. The total revenue exceeded €25.400 (the largest amount ever raised by any kind of charity campaign in our country).
May
This year, May 1st “celebrations” included the decoration of our front door with the traditional May wreath as well as … packing up for the setup of the EADO Congress on the day after.
An outstanding success.
During the 13th Congress of EADO (European Association for Dermato Oncology), organized by Erasmus from May 3rd to 6th 2017 more than 1.200 delegates gathered in Athens and filled up the auditoria and foyers of the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre, with lively discussions around the most interesting topics of melanoma and other skin cancers. During the Congress, Erasmus proudly presented new features adding value to the delegates’ conference experience, including the expert interviews and the daily Newswire: at the end of each day, an electronic bulletin (newswire) summarizing the key scientific points of the day as well as other highlights of the programme, reached the mailboxes of all participants.

Other “stops” in our May rally included the ESHRE Course in Athens, the Athenian Urology Days in Athens, the 2017 Challenges in Endourology Meeting in Paris and the 2017 ESPN Course in the charming city of Lowenstein, in beautiful spring time colors!
June
With two local and two international congresses in the calendar June was not less busy then May this year!
The 4th International Summit on Nail Diseases, held for the second time in Athens was once again a great success, with 450 participants from 33 countries.
A hot farewell to June with temperatures reaching 45o celsius accompanied the European Financial Management Association Congress which took place at the American College of Greece from June 28th to July 1st. For the Gala Dinner, participants had the chance to enjoy a light summer breeze in one of the seaside night clubs of Athens.
July
Our last stops for the first semester included Lyon, for the ESPN 2017 International Workshop on Craniovertebral Junction Surgery - a new, highly education initiative of the Society for 16 participants working on plenty of hands-on sessions. From Lyon, we travelled to Bonn for the site inspection of the 2018 ESPN Congress and finally back to Athens to work on “closing business” in view of the summer break!

Taking some refreshing summer breaths and looking ahead…
Summer may be officially over on August 31st but the heat in Erasmus will stay on for the entire month of September with 5 events from the 3rd to the 30th. In a way, September signals a new era for Erasmus with all 5 projects being new cooperations, and only one of them being medical. The rest of the portfolio expands to golf challenges, groundbreaking technologies - such as - the most amazing and versatile substance available to mankind, called Graphene - and construction consulting.

Our new horizons do not end in September though, as Erasmus celebrates valuable new cooperations for 2018 and beyond in the fields of Neuroendoscopy, Dermosurgery and Paediatric Nursing.
More details coming up in our next newsletter!
